Here's a major development in the global WiMAX VS LTE war. Yota, a Russian internet provider and a major WiMAX 4G supported, has decided to dump WiMAX in favor of LTE 4G. The company decided to abandon its plans to launch a 15-city WiMax network in 2010 year and will instead invest $100 million to roll out Long Term Evolution across five Russian cities before the end of the year.
Score a point for Long Term Evolution on this LTE VS WiMAX rivalry. This development illustrates why some people feel tha WiMAX will ultimately fail and LTE will reign supreme in the 4G world. A number WiMAX supporters have fled and defected to the other camp.
Sprint and Clearwire have also dropped hints to this effect.
So wha does this mean? Well, some say that both of these 4G technologies are compatible so WiMAX might not fail but merge with LTE to form a unified 4G standard.
