WiMAX 4G may have a slight lead over LTE at the US market but the case is very different in the world stage. WiMax 4G operators in the U.K. and The Netherlands are closing and US operators may be on the verge of shifting their allegiance over to LTE. Is the LTE vs WiMAX battle over?
Well, not yet. LTE needs to overcome some major issues before it can claim victory over WiMAX.
For instance, an LTE cell can only support 600 users compared to a 3G base station cell which can support 4,000 users. This means that a large number of LTE Cells are needed to cover a large area. The lack of suitable sites for LTE 4G base stations are also a cause for concern.
In the worst case, this can lead to an inability to service the demand created by sales of LTE 4G smartphones.
So this means that the WiMAX vs LTE debate continues. At least, until LTE figures out a solution to its issues...
