AT&T might still be marketing its HSPA+ network as 4G but the carrier has been hyping up its LTE 4G network. AT&T's CTO John Donovan recently revealed in an interview with Forbes, that the carrier is planning to deploy Voice over LTE (VoLTE) by the year 2013.
Verizon Wireless recently announced a successful attempt to make a call over its new 4G LTE network. AT&T may be making a statement to counter it. But let's get back to Donovan. The CTO also indicated that AT&T is waiting for VoLTE's standards to be more fully finalized.
The carrier is also working on the transition of its voice services from its current network to Voice over LTE. However, the entire process is part of a seven-year plan to make improvements to its voice capabilities.
