Here's an interesting development in the WiMAX vs LTE contest. Verizon Wireless CEO Lowell McAdam said that it will not offer unlimited use of its Long Term Evolution 4G network. Sprint and Clearwire offers unlimited use for its WiMAX 4G networks and does not impose a usage cap.
This bit of information was revealed during a conference. McAdam said that customers will "buy buckets of data by the megabyte." This indicates that the carrier will offer 4G speeds via tiered pricing programs. Unfortunately, the pricing of these plans have not yet been revealed.
McAdam also revealed that laptop dongles and similar devices would be the first to access the LTE network. Then three to five 4G handsets will be available during the first half of 2011 and some of the devices would be introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show in January 2011.
