HTC EVO 4G WiMAX Smartphone Smashes Sprint's One-Day Sales Record

WiMAX 4G appears to be reeling from being abandoned by Yota, but the technology has received a boost from the early success of the HTC EVO 4G. Sprint has proudly announced that its first WiMAX 4G smartphone has broken the first day sales record set by the Samsung Instinct and Palm Pre.

This development means that more consumers will be attracted to the US WiMAX 4G network. Since 4G access is one of this handset's main features, it will bring in new customers for Sprint and Clears WiMAX 4G network.

The demand for the HTC EVO 4G caused shortages at some locations, including its Sprint stores, and the carrier is working with HTC to replenish the stocks. The firs WiMAX 4G smartphone for the US market was also offered on RadioShack, Best Buy and Wal-Mart.

Here's Dan Hesse, Sprint CEO, proudly marketing the EVO 4G:
"HTC EVO 4G is a clear winner for customers with the powerful combination of an amazing multimedia experience in 3G coverage areas that becomes even better in our growing number of 4G markets. It is terrific to see customers react so positively to this device and the innovative experience it brings to them."

I guess this is a good sign for WiMAX in the LTE vs WiMAX battle. The EVO 4G is just the first WiMAX smartphone and more are expected to land next year.
