Verizon Wireless LTE 4G Cities for 2011

Still no Verizon Wireless LTE 4G coverage in your area? Well, you might not wait for long if your city is included in this list. Verizon Wireless announced a list of the intial 4G LTE cities for 2011 but we thought that it might be cool to share this info.

These cities will enjoy some cool upcoming Verizon Wireless smartphones with LTE 4G support including the Motorola DROID BIONIC and HTC Thunderdolt.

The LTE Vs WiMAX rivalry in the US is expected to formally begin when LTE commercially rolls out in November. So far, it appears that LTE 4G is the favorite over WiMAX in the impending 4G clash. However, the WiMax 2 standard is up and ready to go and raise the competition to another level by the start of 2012.

WiMAX currently holds the lead over LTE when it comes to 4G devices on the US market. Sprint is already selling the HTC EVO 4G and the Epic 4G is expected to follow in the following weeks. LTE on the other hand is set be commercially launched in November and the devices for this network may be launched late this year. However, market research firm In-Stat believes that LTE may account for 61.2 percent of 4G-enabled mobile devices in 2014.

It appears WiMAX 4G is losing its hold in Europe. Yota's defection to LTE is a major blow and another WiMAX 4G provider in Holland is set to shut down its operation in the Netherlands by the end of July 2010. Worldmax, a Dutch WiMAX 4G operator has decided to terminate its operations due to opposition from the military.
