Can LTE and WiMAX Merge into a Single 4G Network?

We see LTE and WiMAX as rivals and this notion prevents us from seeing the possibility hat these technologies may transform into a unified 4G wireless network. Clearwire CEO Bill Morrow emphasized this idea at the recent CTIA Wireless trade show. Morrow envisions WiMax and Long Term Evolution merging into one network standard.

The Clearwire CEO suggested that the wireless industry should focus on the similarities between WiMax and LTE rather than the differences. This will pave the way into bringing the technologies together. Morrow revealed that he has talked with some of the world's top telecom and technology companies about how the union of these 4G technologies can be achieved.

Morrow said, "With this overlap, shouldn't we all be thinking how can we bring it together? We're not going to fight a war. We're going to provide our customers just what they want. Our spectrum is designed and built so we can add on LTE should we need to."

The merge of WiMax and Long Term Evolution can be seen as consumer-friendly and major US carrier's will be able the same technology. Joined efforts to create a larger, more robust 4G network will benefit the consumers.
